| Factor | Effect |
|---|---|
| Distance from panel to parking spot | The biggest variable: more wire and conduit |
| Panel capacity | A full or 100A panel may need load management or an upgrade |
| Charger type | A hardwired charger vs. a NEMA 14-50 outlet |
| Finished walls or a detached garage | Fishing wire or trenching |
Typical cost
Most home installations run between $1,800 and $3,500. The final price depends on the type of charger, how far your parking spot is from the electrical panel, and how much room your panel has for a new circuit. Send us a photo of your panel and garage and we'll give you an upfront quote.
Incentives
Is the federal EV charger tax credit still available?
No. The federal 30C credit for home chargers applied only to equipment placed in service through June 30, 2026. Installs after that date do not qualify.
Is the ComEd EV charger rebate available?
ComEd's Residential EV Charger and Installation Rebate offers up to $1,000 (up to $2,500 for income-qualified customers) and runs through 2028 while funds last, but 2026 funding is closed or nearly exhausted. Check comed.com for the current status. Rebates must be filed by an approved ComEd installer, so ask us whether your project qualifies.
